By the Seat of Your Pants Columbus was right - our world isn't flat. But, it isn't round, either! It's three-dimensional. Our future is murky, full of opportunities and threats that we aren't even aware of. It's invisible and swirling with currents - like the air. We were taught to plan our work, and work our plan. We were told to map out our journey. Granted, maps work great if you are going to a place, if you know your destination - exactly where you want to be. But life is full of change and our goals are moving targets. Remember in high school when you were trying to decide what to be when you grew up? (Some of us still haven't decided.) Did you see yourself where you are now? Probably not. How did you arrive successfully where you are? You took advantage of opportunities as you became aware of them, and avoided perceived threats. You made the best of the conditions you were in. Take it from a hang glider pilot, there are simple strategies to find lift in the turbulence of your life. Plan what you can, but keep your options open. Instead of trying to focus on goals all the time, learn to identify opportunities. They surround you. Don't be afraid to fly by the seat of your pants!
