Calculate the Value of Staff Training Ongoing employee training can be hard to evaluate. How do you put a dollar value on fewer staff conflicts? What is the cost of wasted time and mis-communication? Can you estimate the price of lost sales or customer dissatisfaction? Think of it this way: what would happen to your bottom line if your people improved their performance by even a few percentage points? Multiply their monthly salaries & benefits by a few percentage points to find out. Then consider the impact on an annual basis. The results might surprise you. Some managers think that they are saving money by cutting training costs. It is understandable - training isn't a mandatory expense. There is typically no sense of urgency to it. So, training & development get put off until things "slow down," when "we're not so busy." But with each month, those small performance problems add up, and, well, you do the math. Training isn't over once it's over, either. I laugh when business managers tell me that they trained their people in customer service five years ago, so they don't need it. We all need to be reminded of the basics to stay at our peak. Ongoing training is motivating to your people, too. It keeps them fresh, nimble, and resilient - qualities they'll need to thrive in today's volatile business climate. Thriving people, working together, are unstoppable. So, keep up the training!
