On the Fly Article Archives
Lending Wings to Success Do you want to soar? If so, your time cannot be monopolized thinking about communication, conflicts, organization, supervision, motivation, sales and service. Instead, you have to focus on finding opportunities! Your skills in those other areas have to be current, however, so you can perform them effectively - but without having to stop and think. It is critical to "stay current" in a sport like hang gliding, or leadership. The basic skills have to be top-flight every day, so that you and your people can focus on more productive things. Successful organizations know this. Luckily, it is simple. Here are two ideas to incorporate: Include one of those topics in each staff meeting agenda, and facilitate a discussion of the level of it's performance in your workplace. If the consensus shows that improvement is needed, ask for a volunteer to read up on the topic and report his or her findings at the next meeting. If you have an employee newsletter, include an article about one of the topics in each issue. Keep it brief - your people are busy. Review the topic as it relates to the products or services that you provide. As an organization develops its people, it lends wings to them. And, it lends wings to its own success. Chris Waugh owns reNvision, Inc., and works with business professionals who want to learn to succeed on the fly.
