Building Your Network - One by One

Too many business professionals throw money into advertising when there is a more effective, and less expensive, way to increase their business.

Although it may pique their interest in your product or service, customers don't buy because of clever advertising. They buy from people they know and trust.

Good salespeople know this and build rapport with clients and potential customers quickly. It isn't rocket science or brain surgery. It's easy. You can improve your networking skills, and start increasing your business, today.

Here are a few basics:

  • Dress to fit in with your customers, but dress up slightly so they feel special.
  • Get out of your comfort zone - circulate in groups, and meet new people.
  • Listen, look for and find something fascinating about everyone you contact.
  • Learn to initiate handshakes, which is the business version of interpersonal touch.
  • Lavish appreciation on people - nobody feels over-appreciated for the efforts.
  • Actually look at the business cards you get from other professionals.
  • Improve your skills at introducing other professionals to each other.
  • Show respect for other opinions, even if they conflict with yours.
  • Mirror the intensity level of others to really increase rapport.
These tips are reminders about building good friendships. Notice nothing was mentioned about your selling skills. If you master networking skills, you won't need great selling skills. People will seek you out because they like you, respect you, and know you.

And they know that you like, respect and know them too.
